COMMON ADMISSION TEST (CAT)

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) as a pre-requisite for admission to various management programmes of IIMs.

The CAT 2013 will be conducted between Wednesday, 16 October and Monday, 11 November 2013. A candidate can appear for CAT only once during the testing window.

Sale of CAT 2013 Vouchers

The CAT 2013  vouchers can be obtained from selected Axis Bank branches between Monday, 5 August and Tuesday, 24 September 2013 for Rs. 1600/- (Rs. 800/- for SC/ST/PWD(DA) candidates). Visit www.cat2013.iimidr.ac.in for the list of these Axis Bank branches.

New this year, candidates have the added convenience to purchase vouchers online from 5 August through 24 September 2013 via the IIM CAT websitewww.cat2013.iimidr.ac.in .Please visit the website www.cat2013.iimidr.ac.in for more details.
Please note that a candidate needs to buy only one CAT 2013 Voucher irrespective of the number of institutes he/she is applying to. Note that the Voucher must be bought only in the name of the candidate as it appears in the school leaving certificate (12th/Diploma/Degree Certificate). If the name has been changed due to events such as marriage, the candidate must show the relevant document such as a marriage certificate and submit a photocopy at the time of the test, interview and at the time of joining a programme. SC, ST and PWD candidates must show a copy of their SC/ST or Disability Certificates at the time of obtaining the CAT 2013 Voucher from the Axis Bank branches.

Voucher once sold cannot be refunded under any circumstance including but not limited to loss of voucher, inability to read voucher number due to mishandling of the voucher by candidate, candidate being ineligible for taking CAT, CAT not being a pre-requisite for a programme, and rejection of candidate registration due to incomplete and/or wrong information. If the voucher is lost, voucher number is not readable due to mishandling of the voucher by candidate, and/or candidate thinks he/she has made mistake(s) in filling-out information during the online registration, then the candidate can purchase a new voucher and re-register online.

After purchasing the CAT 2013 Voucher, prospective candidates must log on to the website www.cat2013.iimidr.ac.in to register for CAT 2013. CAT 2013 Test Centres

Reporting for the Test

CAT 2013 candidates should arrive at their allocated test centre at least one and half hours (1Hr. 30 Min) before your scheduled appointment. This will allow time for security checks, identity verification and checking in.

If you have registered for Session 1 (morning session), you should be at the test centre by 8:30am. Testing will begin at 10am.

If you have registered for Session 2 (afternoon session), you should be at the test centre by 1:45pm. Testing will begin at 3:15pm.

Please make sure you have your most updated Admit Card and check your date, time and test location carefully.

Bring the valid ID proof as prescribed.

What to Bring

Candidates must bring:

1. CAT 2013 Admit Card

2. One original, valid (not expired) and identifiable photo identification

In addition, Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) candidates will also need to bring a valid document as proof of SC/ST eligibility.

Differently Abled (DA) candidates requiring support during the test must also bring along an authorisation from Prometric and photo identification of a scribe if applicable.

Acceptable forms of photo identification types are: Driver's license, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, College ID (this must be supported with a valid ATM/Debit/Credit Card with your name), Employee identification card, Unique Identification (UID card) or a notarised Affidavit (in English) with Photo, Signature, Date of Birth and Residential Address. Photocopies of the original are not acceptable. If in doubt, bring a notarised Affidavit.

Candidates will not be permitted to take the test if valid photo identification or Admit Card is not presented. If your name has been changed due to events such as marriage, you must show the documents such as Marriage Certificate, Divorce Decree, Legal Name Change etc. and submit a photocopy at the time of the test, interview and at the time of joining a programme.

Candidates will not be permitted to take anything into the testing area, including but not limited to wrist-watch, pen, cellphones, calculators, etc. Do not bring bags, valuables or any large items to the test centre as Prometric will not be able to store these for you. Therefore this is recommended that no personal belongings should be brought to the test center. Small personal items will be required to be kept in a bag that will be stored away from the testing area.

Registration Process

There are two steps:

Eligibility Verification

If a candidate is short-listed for interviews by any IIM, he/she has to comply with the following eligibility verification:

Mark sheets and Degree Certificate

A candidate must show all the original mark sheets and submit attested copies to prove his/her eligibility at the time of interview. Further, if a candidate is selected for a programme, original degree certificate and mark sheets of all semesters/years along with their attested copies must be submitted for verification at the time of joining the programme.

Reservation Category Requirements

If short-listed for interview SC, ST, NC-OBC and DA candidates must show the original caste/class and/or disability certificate and submit a photocopy at the time of interview. Further, if a candidate is selected for a programme, original certificate of qualifying degree and attested copy of the same must be submitted for verification at the time of joining a programme.

Candidates in the Final Year of Graduation

If short-listed for interview, candidates appearing for the final bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification examination must show an original certificate from the Principal/Registrar/Director of the university/institution certifying that the candidate has obtained 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidates belonging to SC, ST, and DA category) based on latest available grades/marks. He/she must submit an attested copy of the original certificate at the time of interview. For the PGP of IIMs, such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme PROVISIONALLY ONLY if they submit a certificate latest by June 30, 2014 from the Principal/Registrar of their college/institute (issued on or before June 30, 2014) stating that they have completed all the requirements including appearing for supplementary exams if any (the results may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the bachelor's degree/ equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate. Their admission will be confirmed only when they submit original mark sheet and qualifying degree certificate of having passed the bachelor's degree / equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate issued by Principal/Registrar of their college/institute. They must obtain at least 50% marks or equivalent. They also must submit an attested copy of the mark sheets and qualifying degree certificate. The deadline for submission of the mark sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2014. NON-FULFILLMENT OF THIS CONDITION WILL AUTOMATICALLY RESULT IN THE CANCELLATION OF THE PROVISIONAL ADMISSION. Provisional admission will also be cancelled if it is found that the certificate (Annexure E) is found to be incorrect subsequently. IIMs would not allow any candidate to join their programme in case the candidate is unable to complete all the requirements for a bachelor degree on or before June 30, 2014. The IIMs would also not offer admission to any candidate after June 30, 2014.

CAT Result and Short-listing

Information related to CAT 2013 results will be available from 14th January 2014 on this website. List of shortlisted candidates for the next level of selection will be made available on the individual IIM websites. Each IIM will send interview letters to the candidates it has short-listed. The criteria for short-listing varies from IIM to IIM. Please visit the admission hotlinks of the respective websites of IIMs for further information.

ADMISSION PROCESS:

Please note that each IIM shortlists candidates for second stage of selection which may be independent of each other. The process may include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI).Performance in CAT2013 examination is an important component in the admission process. IIMs may use previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience and other similar inputs in short listing and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process. The processes, academic cut-offs and the weights allocated to the evaluation parameters may vary across IIMs. For more information you may refer the admissions policies of IIMs from their respective websites

Reservations

As per the Government of India requirements, 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. 27% of seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes candidates belonging to the “non-creamy” layer (NC-OBC). For an updated central list of state-wise OBCs eligible for availing the benefit of reservation and information in respect of the creamy layer visit the website http://www.ncbc.nic.in . In case of NC-OBC category, the castes included in Central List (available athttp://www.ncbc.nic.in/Centrallistifobc.html ) of NC-OBC by the National Commission of Backward Classes, Government of India as on last day of registration will be used. Any subsequent changes will not be effective for CAT2013. As per the provision under section 39 of the PWD Act, 1995, 3% seats are reserved for Differently Abled (DA) candidates. The three categories of disability are: a) low-vision/blindness, b) hearing impairment, and c) locomotor disability/cerebral palsy. This provision is applicable if the candidate suffers from any of the listed disabilities to the extent of not less than 40%, as certified by a medical authority as prescribed and explained in the said Act. The candidates belonging to categories for which seats are reserved need to note and read the eligibility requirements carefully before applying. It should be noted that while it is the endeavor of IIMs that the candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD/Non-Creamy OBC categories join the Programme in proportions mandated by the law, they have to meet the minimum eligibility criteria and a certain minimum level of performance in the admission process. The candidates should read carefully the description of admission process followed by each IIM on their respective websites. No change in the category will be entertained after the closure of registration window; hence, the applicants are advised to give attention while registering. Note for SC/ST, NC-OBC, and DA Candidates If you belong to SC or ST categories, your caste/tribe must be listed in the Government of India schedule. The caste certificate that you send to IIM should be in the Government approved format and should clearly state: (a) Name of your caste/tribe; (b) Whether you belong to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe; (c) District and the State or Union Territory of your ordinary residence; and (d) the appropriate Government of India schedule under which your caste/tribe is approved by it as Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe. A copy of the SC/ST and /or PWD (DA) certificate(s) must be sent to CAT Centre, C/O Admission Office, Indian Institute of Management Indore, Prabandh Shikhar, Rau-Pithampur Road, Indore-453556 (M.P.) INDIA. Mention the Voucher Serial Number on the certificate. Failure to produce a copy of the caste/class certificate will result in the rejection of your CAT registration. The SC/ST and/or PWD (DA) certificate(s) must be shown and a photocopy should be submitted at the time of interviews. Moreover, the certificate(s) must be submitted at the time of joining programmes of any of the IIMs. If you belong to the Non-Creamy Other Backward Classes (NC-OBC), you must produce the NC-OBC certificate duly signed by competent authority and enclose its photocopy at the time of interviews.
